There is a spring loaded precision valve that is on the lid of this pressure cooker. This valve helps to measure the pressure of the contents inside. This pressure valve has red bands that rise and fall with the pressure. As the pressure builds, the first band will rise indicating that the pressure inside is at eight psi. The pressure will continue to go up and so will the bands, when you see two red bands, it means the pressure is at fifteen psi. Most recipes need at least fifteen psi of pressure in order to cook, but some foods that are more delicate like fish and vegetables should be cooked at eight psi. Safety Release System

  3. The Secondary spring loaded valve
  4. The gasket around the inside of the lid will be forced outward and the excess pressure will be released downward.
  5. The lid locking system ensures that the lid remains locked during cooking and that the pressure won’t blow the lid off. The lid locking system also ensures that no pressure will begin to build up until the lid is locked tightly in place.

Cleaning Your Kuhn Rikon Pressure Cooker

Although you can put your Kuhn Rikon pressure cooker in the dishwasher it is not recommended. The company suggests that you clean it out with a mild dish soap and water. Don’t use any soaps that are too abrasive. If there is food stuck to the pot, don’t scrape it off with any sharp, metal object simply soak the pot in water until the food is released.

Every so often you will need to clean your pressure cooker more thoroughly. Clean the primary valve. This can be done with water and a pipe cleaner. There is no need to clean the secondary valve. Occasionally you should clean the gasket located on the inside of the lid. This can be done by removing the gasket and cleaning it in soapy water. After it is dry, rub it down with some vegetable oil. Clean the area on the lid where the gasket sits and then replace the clean gasket.
